| The book of James is an epistle written to believers exhorting them to live holy and righteous before our father and our Lord Jesus Christ. The problem that was occurring was that they were not exhibiting the change in character that comes about from spiritual Reformation through Jesus Christ. James in his epistle uses plain words and words of rebuke against this rebellious lifestyle that the Christians were clearly walking in. Therefore when you want to understand the book of James and what he's addressing you want to look for books that will condense all five chapters into a simplistic and concise form to make the whole easily understandable. You look for books that break down the hard to understand idioms that are current preachers have taken for granted to know what they mean without knowing the history in regards to the particular saying. One such hard saying is James 5:14 which I won't get into explaining here but I use this as an example because this is a Scripture that one would need to know the historical background on.Conciseness and brevity will aid you in keeping your attention. When anyone is going to read Scripture and they're going to want an understanding of the Scripture this will be key in helping anyone further along in their studies. This is why I say that a person should look for condensed books that expound on the Scriptures. Having a book that is easily understood and to the point allows you to take in a lot of information in a short amount of time.
